so yesterday (or earlier today), i wished mr. wohns happy birthday, right? then i see his status and it’s like
…is having an amazing time in Japan and thanks for the birthday wishes!
frown is all i can do. ): ):
okay, so i wrote about the yc party because it came before the orientation (timeline wise), but it had a good ending, so i’m going to push it to the last couple paragraphs. anyway, on to the youth venture and mentor 2 college orientation!
so for a couple hours, i went to the nela center by garfield and there were quite a lot of people there and there was racial diversity. i was actually a bit surprised. so youth venture is a program that gives kids a place to mix together community problems and passions. taking this mix, a person can make a non-profit or event or anything they think of and project it to the community but first, this plan is presented to a board and evaluated and it’s eligible to win up to a thousand dollars in grant money to get the project started!
and the application was sent along with mentor 2 college (which i signed up for) but the youth venture one needed an essay which i didn’t write. but, for some reason, i didn’t need to write the esssay… whatever, i’m not going to worry about it. everything is cleared up. -.- hahaha
any-who, the two dudes who are in charge of youth venture were pretty cool; they were good at speaking and seemed SPARKLING with energy. i think i gave a good impression and i input some good ideas, i think. i was also surprised at the eye-contact they made with me. it was weird!! while one of them was talking to the whole group, he’d make eye-contact with one person a long time and a couple times with me. wah, pretty eyes! lol
also, i saw an old acquaintance, kathy. yes, the one that was in mr. oc’s class in seventh grade.
and then, we took a break and had sandwiches/ezell’s/juice/fruit salad.
the mentor 2 college thing was pretty straight forward. they emphasized coming each day on time and dressed appropriately. the japanese lady seemed kind of intimidating, derek always has a soft voice but has a sense of humor, and the other lady kind of had weird eyes that were always wide. and one of the volunteers was kind of nerdy looking, but he was nice and liked to help.
so nearing the end, cameron, one of mentor 2 college’s greatest success stories came and made a little speech from the top of his head. he’s such a natural speaker! and his little brother, larry (really nice) was there so he came to pick him up, but the staff wanted him to talk a little.
but first, some laying down of the facts: cameron came a bit late and was talking on his phone. he was asked to continue to phone call outside. he went outside and hung up shortly. then, he came inside and ate and was asked to do a speech.
nearing the end of his little talk, one of the mom’s (i’m not going to be stereotypical, but she was black) called him out. she thought that he should be an example and should come on time. she stated that he was late and on the phone and that he should not be talking to the kids if he was late and not a good example. she went ON AND ON. it was infuriating and scary because i was sitting like a foot away from her.
about three hours prior…
okay, so at the shitty yc party, while all the underaged freshmen from franklin were watching a rated r movie, jojo, mori, and i played the shittiest game of 10 fingers in history. it is the worst game in 10 fingers history because those two have done NOTHING juicy in their lifetime. i’m serious.
cuz you know, usually, people are like “oh, i’ve never given head or i’ve never made out with another girl and people put their fingers down? my god! i had to resort to DRASTIC measures like “i’ve never had a crush on arthur” and yes, it’s the cartoon character arthur on pbs kids. -.-
but then, it went down to relationship things and out of the two they vote that i have indeed had a relationship. but in my eyes, i don’t think it was. there was no “will you be my girlfriend?” none of that. and there was no kiss and no genuine “i love you” (at least not from me). i’d like to think that what i do with people are categorized in my own terms. but maybe people just need to see more of the world and maybe, some pretty amazing, pretty crazy things will happen to them as well.
